HRH The Princess Royal spent a busy day in Jersey on 4th November. Her programme involved a tour of the recently refurbished Opera House before going to the Royal Court House to unveil a portrait by Jersey artist Jason Butler of King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s visit to the Island last year.
After the portrait was unveiled HRH The Princess Royal moved up to the Old Library to meet Islanders old and new all connected to the Jersey Branch of the Royal Air Force Association, which is celebrating its centenary this year.
After HRH The Princess Royal had spent time speaking with the various groups of people, several weighed down with bars of gleaming medals, each described the ease of conversation and interest the Royal guest had showed.
HRH returned to the Opera House later that evening to attend the annual Durrell Lecture Wild Tales. Guest speakers were Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Dr Lee Durrell who celebrated Gerald Durrell’s inspirational vision, legacy and the continuing impact of the Trust today. Dr Mike Hudson reflected on the success of Rewild our World strategy and shared stories of how to continue and protect species from extinction, restore ecosystems, and inspire others to care for our planet. HRH The Princess Royal shared insights from her role as Patron of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust which started in 1972.
