The Lieutenant-Governor’s Challenge started in 2007 when Island Walk founder Paul Owen invited the former Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Ridgway, to complete the entire route in five consecutive stages each year during his tenure. He agreed and the LG Challenge was born.

The Island Walk has had more than 20,000 participants and has raised over £2,077,000 for local charities over the last 27 years.
